How START Can Help

START provides personalized support through case management and access to essential resources, including:

  • Housing Help – Support to stay in your home and prevent homelessness.

  • Financial Help – Limited help with rent, utilities, or other urgent bills, if funding is available. You must meet with a case manager to work on goals toward independence.

  • Basic Needs – Beds and bedding for children, plus socks and underwear for all ages

  • Personal Care & Household Items – At START’s Dignity Center, households can receive essential supplies such as diapers and wipes, period products, laundry detergent, toilet paper, and more.

  • Connections to Other Help – We connect you with other community programs for more support.

Who START Can Help

START helps people under age 55 who live in the Stoughton Area School District, and families with children, who may be:

  • At risk of losing housing or becoming homeless

  • Facing a money crisis or sudden hardship (such as a sudden job loss, medical bill, or unexpected expense)

  • Needing short-term help while working toward a better future

  • Struggling to meet basic needs

  • Youth or families connected with the Stoughton Justice System

  • Unsure where to find local help

What to Expect

Getting help begins with a meeting with a START Case Manager. In this private meeting:

  1. You can tell us about your current needs and challenges.

  2. We can share the ways START can help.

  3. We will connect you with other community resources, if needed.

✨ Please remember: To receive financial help, you must meet with a case manager✨

We believe no one should face hardship alone.
We are neighbors helping neighbors;
supporting dignity, respect, and hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Appointments are the best way to make sure staff are available. Sometimes staff work remotely or respond to emergencies, even during office hours.

See the Community Resource Guide for a list of other local resources available.
